Pick the people waiting for you. When you’re within a distance you choose — or a number of minutes away — ETA emails them: “Sam is about 10 minutes away from home.”

Dozing on the train, or on an unfamiliar bus route? Set your stop and ETA sounds an alarm and shows a full-screen alert as you get close (and vibrates, on phones and browsers that allow it).

The honest bit

Keep the screen open

Browsers only send location updates to pages that are on screen, so the journey screen must stay open. ETA asks your phone to keep the screen on while a journey runs. Why?

Not for emergencies

ETA is a convenience, not a safety service. Nobody monitors it, and emails can be late. In an emergency, call 999.

Your destination stays with you

The place you’re going is kept on your phone. Our server only hears “send the alert now” — plus your latest position if you turn on a live link. Privacy

Three steps

  1. Set where you’re going. Search a postcode or town, or tap the map. Save places you use often — they stay on your phone.
  2. Choose when to be alerted. Within 300 m to 10 km, or 2 to 30 minutes away (an estimate from your recent speed).
  3. Start, and leave the screen open. Put the phone where you can hear it. ETA does the rest.

Good to know

  • iPhone: Safari doesn’t let web pages vibrate, so the alarm uses sound and the screen. More in the FAQ.
  • Install it: add ETA to your home screen and it opens like an app, even offline.
  • Emails only: ETA can’t send texts or WhatsApp messages.
